1. Lykoi
Our number one rare cat breed is The Lykoi cat, also known as the werewolf cat breed. They are a domestic shorthair kitty with a natural genetic mutation that gives them a creepy, cute and distinctive appearance. Lykoi means “wolves” in Greek.

2. Savannah
A list of rare cat breeds wouldn't be complete without the Savannah or Ashera cat. The Savannah is a hybrid cat breed that is a cross between a domestic cat and an African Serval. These slim and tall fur babies display a spotted coat and large ears that give them a distinctively wild appearance.

3. Chausie
The Chausie cat is another hybrid cat breed that is a cross between a domestic cat and a Felis Chaus jungle cat. They are slim and tall with very long legs with broad ears and prominent cheekbones. This rare cat breed is known for being curious and affectionate.

5. Kurilian Bobtail
Kurilian Bobtail cats have pom-pom tails and fluffy coats, purrfectly suited to their cold origins in the Kuril islands, which stretch from Russia down to the northern tip of Japan. This rare cat breed loves water and is active, friendly and loyal.

6. Manx
A cutie with NO booty, the Manx cat breed is a happy-go-lucky, tailless cat that hails from the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. Manx cats are smart and sometimes dog-like in behaviour, up for a game of fetch or two.

7. Ocicat
The Ocicat looks wild but is an entirely domestic cat breed originating from a mix of Siamese, Abyssinian and silver tabby American Shorthair kitties. These social and active cats are also like dogs and are known to love fetching, learning tricks and walking on leash.

8. Korat
A heart shaped head and sparkling green eyes make the Korat cat breed easy to fall in love with. Korats have been bred in Thailand for centuries and are intelligent, dominating and loyal to very lucky hoomans. They can often be mistaken for Russian Blues, but are a completely separate cat breed.

9. LaPerm
The LaPerm cat is a rex cat breed, similar to Devon Rex and Cornish Rex cats. A dominant gene causes their distinctive curly coat which resembles a salon fresh perm. LaPerms are curious, kind and ready to climb, actively searching out high spots to observe their hoomans from.

10. Somali
Do you love Abyssinian cats? Then you will go ga-ga for the Somali cat breed, which are often referred to as the long haired Abyssinian! A rarely occurring recessive gene found in the Abyssinian cat breed gives the Somali cat its lovely long hair coat. Somali cats are cheeky monkeys that love to explore and be acrobatically active, so vertical space is a must!
