Step into the time machine and witness a miracle - we’re taking you back to Cornwall, England where, in a spontaneous natural mutation of feline genes, a kitty with an unusually soft and famously curly coat was born. Yes, that’s right, the Cornish Rex is our favourite accident since the invention of champagne, and our favourite thing from Cornwall since the pastie.

Appearance

Their famous fur is short and close-lying; the Cornish Rex’s curls tend to be more wavy and tame than their cousin, the Devon Rex. As much as it pains us to associate it with a canine, this cat’s frame is positively greyhound-like, with long, slender limbs and a skinny torso. The finishing touches are the two oversized ears set rakishly on either side of a small face - the better to hear your adoring compliments with.

Temperament

The Cornish Rex has the skinny frame of a gymnast, so don’t be suprised to find them defying the laws of physics. Their kitten-like agility and energy often remains well into their senior years. They are physical performers, much more interested in play than conversation - be sure to stock up on a variety of toys and stimulating catnip. The Cornish Rex is a highly intelligent cat and doesn’t mind flaunting it, so use that to your advantage and train your kitty to go for a stroll in its harness or enjoy the wonders of an outdoor enclosure. At the same time, be prepared for mischief - the Cornish Rex wants your attention, and knows it’ll get it by holding your socks hostage.

Care

The Cornish Rex’s unique coat lacks the protective guard hair of most other breeds. This means they shed very little, and require next to no brushing. In fact, their fragile coat can be damaged by brushes - you’re better off giving them a few quick brushes with your palm. Think of it as constructive cuddle time. As if their perm wasn’t stylish enough, a kitty jumper will keep them warm in the winter months when their thin coat proves lacking. Additionally, their big ears need weekly cleaning, in addition to the usual tooth brushing, claw clipping and yearly vet checkups.

Allergies

The Cornish Rex is an extremely light shedder, so as long as your allergies aren’t of the extreme variety, this could be the kitty for you.
