The most popular male cat names
  • Oliver — “Oliver” is the name of the main character of Disney’s Oliver and Company. From “Olivier”, the French form of a name meaning “elf warrior”; this is definitely a cool name to give to your cat.
  • Leo — “Leo” means “lion” — a perfect name for a stately tomcat!
  • Charlie —  The diminutive of “Charles” that can either mean “man” or “warrior”.
  • Milo —  “Milo” can mean “gracious” or “soldier”, and is the name of one of the main characters in The Adventures of Milo and Otis, in which “Milo” is an orange tabby cat.
  • Max — Short for “Maximilian”, it means “the greatest” — and isn’t your cat exactly that?
  • Jack — “Jack” is the diminutive form of “John”, which can be traced back to mean “Yahweh is gracious”. It has since become a common name and has never been out of the US top 100 names. So many characters have also been named Jack, you can practically take your pick!
  • George — From the Greek meaning “farmer”, George is also the name of the saint who is famous for killing a dragon. Keeping in mind that your kitten daily “kills” his catnip mice, this can be a good name to choose.    
  • Simon —  The name “Simon” can be traced back to the Hebrew “he has heard”, and is the name of various important persons in the Bible. There is also a Simon in the A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) books.
  • Loki — No longer simply a god of mischief in the Norse mythology, Loki is also a very popular character in the Marvel universe.
  • Simba — The lead character in The Lion King, “Simba” means “lion”.

  • Mr. Whiskers — This one speaks for itself. Whiskers is already a cute name, but Mr. Whiskers just ups the ante!
  • Mr. Meowgi — A play on Mr. Miyagi of The Karate Kid’s name.  
  • Sushi — Named after the Japanese dish that often contains seafood.
  • Seuss — Named after “Dr. Seuss”, author of classics like The Cat in the Hat.
  • Meowton — A play on the surname Newton. The perfect cute name for a nerdy cat owner!

  • Beowulf — Named after the monster and dragon fighting hero of the Old English poem of the same name.

  • Cupid — Was seeing your cat love at first sight? Then Cupid — the god of attraction and affection in classical mythology — may just be the name to choose!

  • Tristan/Tristram — Hero of the medieval romance of Tristan and Iseult as well as being a knight of the Round Table.
  • Mr. Darcy — The romantic hero of Jane Austen’s Pride and Predjudice, portrayed by Colin Firth in the classic BBC adaptation of the book.
  • Bilbo — The hobbit hero of J.R.R. Tolkien’s children’s book The Hobbit.
  • Thor — No longer simply the god of thunder in the Norse mythology, Thor is also a very popular character in the Marvel universe.
  • Binx — Named after the black cat from the film Hocus Pocus.
